The Play That Goes Wrong

If you have ever seen or been in a performance where absolutely nothing goes right then you will love “The Play That Goes Wrong” by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields & Jonathan Sayer. A play where disaster is part of the laughter. I saw this production with its director being Dámaso Rodríguez. The play that goes wrong is full of comedy and just a little insanity. I would describe this story as interesting and hilarious! Everything that could have possibly gone wrong went wrong!

Curtains open up to a beautiful set designed by Scenic Designer Tom BuderWitz, which immediately fell apart, the play follows the Cornely Polytechnic Drama Society as they try to put on their production of “The Murder at Haversham Manor.”

One thing I noticed that so interesting was the constant slips and mistakes, with every problem in each scene ranging from words, to drinking white vinegar, and a bunch of spit takes. This comedy does an amazing job at using its incredible set as another character. The cast's costumes were so detailed, my personal favorite costume/character was Florence. Her character is a true diva and I loved how all three of the actors who wore her costume just kept Florence's personality. This show also does an amazing job using sound effects and lighting, mostly with them malfunctioning but it adds another layer to the show.

As the room settled back in from the intromission I was so excited to see the end of this story. When act 2 starts, it is in chaos! The curtain was lifted up too soon so we saw the cast/crew scrambling around trying to fix and reset the stage. Like I said earlier this play does such an amazing job with all of its "problems" throughout the show, the cast interacts with the audience, when the detective was trying to find a notebook that was not in the correct spot on the sofa he asked some of the students in the front row. This whole scene was so funny and his reaction when he found it was so silly as he got back into charter.

The play that goes wrong keeps us laughing all the way home. Not to spoil the show, but the ending was crazy! With a plot twist that I totally didn't see coming and the set pretty much transforming into a death trap by the end. This play was so full of energy and nonstop laughs. The cast really put in 100% into the show. With it being a student matinee they could have chosen to give less effort but they truly gave a theater full of students an incredible show.
