Costume Club
Olive Ziegler, president and founder of the Costume Club, explains what her club is and its impact in the community. The costume club creates, designs, and makes clothes. It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays directly after school in DeWitt’s classroom (310), but they are also working on the weekends at Yakima Maker Space.
The club is all about teamwork, creativity, and the wide range of projects they are able to take on together. The most interesting thing about the club is the array of people and interests that range from cosplay to simple sewing. I then asked Olive what sets their club apart from the others here at IKE and then a hypothetical fun question about budget.
The club has a very wide variety of interests that can all be transferred into creativity and projects. If this club had an unlimited budget and could do whatever they wanted, they would start with supplies and a sewing machine, then get a clothes rack and mannequins, but they said they would save the rest for future projects.
All in all, the club is very creative and they focus on making art. Making and designing clothes in and of itself is really an art that people don't appreciate as much as they should. I want to bring attention to the art factors because yes, some people just see clothes as clothes but, this club does not, they see their finished projects like a painter looks at a completed canvas. Sewing and designing clothes is a lost art that they are trying to share and bring more attention to.
