Big Fish!
Edward Bloom is a traveling salesman and father trying to bring imagination and joy to everyone’s lives. His stories are more than pure entertainment; they are how he understands life. Bloom’s son, Will, sees things very differently. Will is a journalist who values facts and clear answers. His hardships and misunderstandings with his father draw the two apart. That was until he received a phone call from his mother.
Big Fish is all about building generational stories and figuring out the difference between fantasy and reality.
Big Fish is a very meaningful production to many involved. There are 44 cast members, each playing an important role in telling Edward’s story. The role of Edward Bloom is played by Junior Vincent York. He is in 12 out of 18 songs in the musical. Along with the 44 cast members, there are 21 tech members and 28 pit members! Without tech, the show would be missing a few really cool elements, including sound and lights. Without pit, there would be no music. They have been working hard since January. In addition to the students in the pit, there are 5 adults, including the conductor Ms. Pierce. The show would not be what it is without them.
Participating in activities such as theatre is such a special moment. These productions are often someone's first live performance, whether it be on stage or as an audience member. It is also someone's very last live performance. Every show presented on the stage means something to someone. Whether it is someone finding their passion or saying goodbye to something they love. For seniors, this may be their last time on stage, whether as a cast , pit, or a tech member. Editor Angie Gonzalez interviewed 3 members of the musical and asked,
“What will you miss most about theatre here at Ike?”
Daniel Garcia (Amos Calloway):
I will for sure miss being in Mr. Clark's office during each performance.
Adeline Cunningham (Jenny Hill):
I will definitely most miss the people and all the silly moments in the greenroom/backstage. I also love performing and have been doing it for 8+ years, so I will miss being on stage.
Stormie Tabayoyon (Stage Manager):
I will miss the people and the experience. I never thought I would enjoy tech as much as I do because of how involved my dad is at the Capital Theatre, but Clark showed me how much more there is to everything. It is truly one of the greatest experiences.
