Homecoming Court

Congratulations Chloe Dever and Ellie Suhm for winning homecoming royalty! I'd also like to acknowledge the runners-up, Elias Diaz, Annaka Yockey, Claudia Escobar, Dylan Reteria, Victoria Hernandez, and Jackie Moreno Sanchez for giving us an amazing performance at our homecoming assembly.
I spoke with Ellie and Chloe to gain some insight into their experiences and thoughts on being part of the homecoming court. When asked what made them want to run, Chloe shared, “I’ve always been super involved with school and had a strong interest in participating in anything I can, and thought it was a great opportunity to put myself out there!” Ellie said, “I wanted to run because I’ve seen how much fun past seniors have had during the process, and wanted to give it a try. I also saw it as a way to get more involved, and didn’t want to regret not having the experience whatever the outcome may have been.”

When asked how they felt after winning, Chloe replied, “I feel surprised and achieved. A lot of effort went into running for such a large event and to know my peers have trusted me enough to even nominate me is an honor… Winning is a whole new level and an unforgettable experience that I’ll never quite grasp.” Ellie added “Super excited! I think homecoming has a lot to do with our school's culture and the community as a whole so when I think of a homecoming court I think of people who represent Ike in the best way. I’m glad other people can see the passion and pride I have for our school.”

I also asked what their favorite part of homecoming was, Chloe said, “ My favorite experience at homecoming was definitely the sense of community. Having so many people in one place for a common, fun event is just so exhilarating. Being so sentimental I certainly did feel warm feelings in my heart when seeing everyone so happy and knowing that I get to experience this.” Ellie shared, “My favorite part was seeing so many people throughout the process. It’s really cool to see how many people come to the game and support the team, the performers, the students and staff, too. The student section was bigger than most, and it just shows how strong our school spirit is when there’s an emphasis on community.”

Lastly, when asked if they had any additional thoughts, Chloe offered an inspiring message “To anyone out there who’s afraid of putting themselves in a scary position, know that it’s okay to try and it is okay to fail. Every success we miss is thanks to letting fear consume us … We walk forward slowly, but never backwards. Put yourselves out there!!”

In addition, we also honored our Special Education Homecoming Royalty.

Overall, homecoming was a great experience for anyone who attended and participated. Once again, congratulations to all who ran for homecoming royalty, and a special congratulations to Ellie and Chloe on their well deserved win!
