Back When I was in High School...
Mrs. Garcia
What is one thing you’d tell your senior self?
The one thing I would tell myself is to include others. My friends and family members somehow took a backseat in my daily activities as senior year came to an end. I was quite independent and my world at school was very different from my home life.
What is your biggest regret senior year?
My biggest regret for senior year was not seeing different college campuses. CWU was an open door to a new world, and I loved my experience! Each campus is going to offer a chance to set a path for a brighter future.
What was your favorite part of high school?
My favorite part of high school was the variation of class selections. I loved English Literature, Home Ec., P.E., and I remember getting a “C” in Calculus. I enjoyed being a Teacher’s Assistant (TA), and this experience later gave me an Education Career option at CWU.
Is there any advice you would give seniors?
Whatever academic history seniors have at the start of the year, it is their starting point toward personal choices that will have a greater impact. Students need to step out of their comfort zones and know what to complete in a timely manner. Trust their instincts and background knowledge to believe what others present and move forth confidently in their own manner.
Mr. Pearsons
What is one thing you’d tell your senior self?
You will never have more time in your life to dedicate purely to learning about the world around you, so enjoy the incredible opportunity you have right now to dive into your education.
What is your biggest regret senior year?
That I didn’t shave my sideburns. They didn’t make me look as cool as I thought they did.
What was your favorite part of high school?
I didn’t have a typical high school experience. I was homeschooled and then switched to Running Start full-time for my junior and senior year. That being said, my favorite part of the school aspect of my life was getting introduced to incredible books by authors like Toni Morrison and Jhumpa Lahiri.
Is there any advice you would give seniors?
Seniors, you are at the point in your life when you are becoming adults, and it's time to start thinking about what kind of people you want to be. You have a responsibility when you leave this school to change the tides of history and stand up for what is right. Be thinking daily about the positive and joyous impact you are going to make.
