How Old is Too Old to Trick or Treat?
Do you still go trick-or-treating? If not, why? Is it because you think you're past the “age limit”? The debatable question “How old is too old?” always seems to appear around this time of the year, and still, there is no final answer. I asked 30 people around the school what they thought the age to stop trick-or-treating was. 3 people said 19, 6 people said 20-23, and 4 people said 16-17. The age that had the most votes was age 18 with 13 votes. Many people reasoned that after 18, you should have better things to do than take candy that was meant for kids. While some people thought the earlier the better, others thought that people should never stop trick-or-treating. Being 30 and knocking on people's doors asking for candy is seen as normal when you're with your kids, but doing it alone? That's when people start calling it “weird” and that's what made this question so controversial. Some argued free candy is free candy and there is no shame in taking advantage of and enjoying it. Generally, adults like the idea of older teens trick-or-treating because it means that instead of going to parties, they’re in a fun, supervised environment. Personally, I think around 21 is the max age to trick or treat because at that age, you should be able to provide candy for yourself. At what age do you think is appropriate to stop trick-or-treating?
