New Advisory, So Many Schedules

The way we do advisory has been a big change this school year: it meets twice a week rather than just once on Monday. We have a different schedule every single day.

The “why” is what they don’t tell us. They’re doing it differently because it’s offering more credit, attendance issues, and the workload. Credit weight has changed, you now get a half credit per semester rather than .025, this is good because students who have failed an elective class would have this advisory credit to cover it.

Attendance is another main reason, many students would just simply not come on the advisory days because they think it’s not important but, now it’s twice a week so that’s less likely to happen.

The final reason is because Schoolinks, this is the alternative to Xello and it has more work and takes more time. School district administrators were worried that the school links wouldn’t get finished and it is a graduation requirement.

One of the biggest changes is that we have different schedules almost every day. This is a huge adjustment for us to make, and can make it hard to get work done in class on most days.

So there are reasons for the changes, whether we like it or not, advisory twice a week is here to stay.
