IKE One Acts
Hello Eisenhower Cadets! Welcome back to this month's segment of: What are the Ike players up to now?? For the past month, our dear theatre students here at Eisenhower have been hard at work putting together shows for the upcoming One Acts, May 14th and 15th! Now you may be wondering, “Angie, what the heck even is One Acts ANYWAYS?!?” Well, dear questioner, One Acts, as they are called, are shows that are exactly one act, running about 30-40ish minutes! Think of a musical or play, divide it in half, and BOOM, you have one act! These shows can be plays or mini-musicals, spanning various genres that are all as amazing as the last! Here at Eisenhower, we have the tradition of having the yearly One Acts be directed by our wonderful seniors in our drama department. Speaking of which, let's get a head start and hear about this year's senior directors! Let's see just who they are and what shows they are directing this May!
First off, we have senior Adeline Cunningham directing Dark Road, written by Laura Lundgren Smith. Dark Road is a docudrama set in 1940s Nazi Germany during WWII. The show follows Greta, a young woman, who, in an interview, details how she became a guard at a concentration camp to support herself and her sister, Lize. Greta sinks down a “dark road” towards cruel and violent behavior, which she later tries to justify as the interview continues. The show is told in various tense flashbacks, digging inside Greta's suppressed memories in an attempt to figure out her motives and true story.
Next, we have seniors Naikeely Tabayoyon & Annie Loudon co-directing Wild Strawberries, written by Jerry Ayers. This show takes place on a beautiful, early spring morning in 1700s Italy, or medieval times, so to speak. The story follows Nikollete, a young maiden whose brother has been shot dead, needing to dress as her deceased brother to secure the estate in her name! Beside her, tags along her maid Truffledina, who is in dire need of some breakfast STAT! Join this wonderful pair of girls, or not-so-deceased brother and maid, on a journey to secure an estate, cause an arranged marriage mess, and almost die of hunger in a story of love, lies, and…breakfast?
Last but not least, we have senior Sarah Lara directing Check Please, written by Jonathan Rand. This show takes place in a present-day upscale restaurant, following a girl and a guy, their literal names BTW, who go on various atrocious, crazy, and wacky blind dates. Ones that include mimes, football fans, grannies, creeps, polyphobics, and many other eccentric personality types. Join this poor pair of romantics on their disastrous dates and live through the feels of the awkwardness of what is now in this day and age, “modern dating”!
