Phones? Worry About Bigger Issues

The phone ban in schools has been implemented in at least 18 states and somewhat making its way to Washington schools’. Though Washington isn’t banning phones entirely from schools, it's said they may start banning phones during class time and or during lectures in class. Some people like the ban that's going on, but the majority of students dislike or even hate it.

I would rather not have our phones banned in general, since phones can be very helpful with work and are there for safety. Though I do see why people would ban phones, seeing how they can be a distraction and a liability to learning kids.

But as you get older you should be understanding how to balance work and distractions. A student at Eisenhower school has her own opinions about it too and I feel as if she should be heard more.

Hope Morrison, a junior here at IKE, says this, “Yes, phones are a huge distraction but there are bigger issues, sexual assault, gang activity and shootings, the fact that they care more about phones than bigger issues is insane to me. Our district failed us, and instead of paying attention to bigger issues they rather ban our phones.”

Not just our school district, but all over the states, schools are failing their students and picking and choosing what is a threat or not. Phones should never be their top priorities, instead the safety of the students should be number one at all times
