Voices from the Seniors: Volleyball Reflections

The varsity volleyball seniors are getting ready for their last season, and they have a lot to say about it . From what makes the team strong to what they hope to achieve, the seniors shared their thoughts on how things are going and what they expect for the rest of the season. As leaders on and off the court, their insight gives a glimpse of what students and teammates can look forward to.

I asked Lynaya Barajas a series of questions focused on the strengths and weaknesses of the volleyball team. Lynaya says, “I think the team's biggest strengths are the relationships with each other and the level of competitiveness. We've all known each other for so long and it helps us on the court, we also are a very competitive team so it pushes us to get better everyday.” She added, “ I think the team needs to improve on consistency. We're all amazing players but we lack a form of consistency when we play. We have so many ups and downs and we need to learn to be up all the time.” Lynaya continues to talk about how the team's chemistry this year is so much more than it was the past few years and how they are all so close and that they have an unbreakable bond.

Next, I interviewed Emily Chavez and asked her questions more focused on her thoughts of the season so far and her expectations for the rest of the season.  Emily says,” I feel like this season is going pretty good. I think if we truly commit to the season as a whole we can go far. I do think this team can go far in districts and even make it to state, because we work really hard for this and I doubt we would just give it up so easily.” As for some of her expectations she says, “ My expectations for the rest of the season is that my team is going to do great and that we're going to work hard for every single game that we play and we're going to WIN.”

As the season goes on, the seniors will be a big part of leading the team. No matter how it ends, they've already made an impact and created memories that will last. For them it's about playing hard and enjoying their last season together.
