Ellie Suhm, Softball Senior

As the upcoming varsity softball season approaches, I interviewed senior Ellie Suhm about how she is feeling about everything heading into her final season with her team and what she hopes to accomplish this year..

Suhm shared that she is feeling both excited and emotional as the season begins, explaining, “I’m super excited. I think it's a little bittersweet being my senior season, but I'm ready to work hard and have lots of fun.” When talking about her expectations for the team this year, she emphasized the importance of teamwork and effort, saying, “I would say my expectations for the team this year are to lift each other up and try our best. Putting in effort at practice is important to me so we can perform well in games.”

She also believes that defense could be one of the team's biggest strengths this season. "I hope the team's biggest strength will be our defense. I know we've got great hitters who can chip away to get our team's runs, but not allowing points for other teams and locking down our defense is essential.” She added that the team has strong experience and they have many upperclassmen returning to the field, noting, “It's also promising with all four seniors in the infield.”

While she is optimistic about the season, Suhm acknowledged that the team has faced challenges in the past, particularly with errors. However she believes the team is focused on improving. “In the past we have struggled with errors a lot. I think focusing on fundamentals, slowing things down, and trusting our teammates will help fix those or at least lessen them this season,” she said.

Along with team goals , Suhm also shared her personal goals for her final season, explaining, “ my personal goals are to be an aggressive hitter, base runner, and cheer my teammates on.” She also reflected on how last year's seniors influenced the team culture and the kind of leadership she hopes to bring this season. “The seniors last year made the season so special just by being positive and genuine,“ Suhm said. “So win or lose, as long as I'm loud I think it'll be a season to remember.”

As Ellie enters her final season, her excitement, leadership, and positivity are sure to play an important role in shaping the team season both on and off the field.
