2026: A New Swim Season Begins

Eisenhower’s swim team is getting ready for a fun, fast season. We have a lot of returning swimmers as well as a couple of beginners. The new swimmers are improving a lot already, from barely able to swim a length of the pool (25 yards) to swimming multiple at a time. Our first meet was a jamboree at Moses Lake High School. At this meet, all the races are only 50 yards except for the 200 freestyle relay. This meet doesn’t score points, but it is a good meet to check out your competition from the Big 9 League.

It was so fun to see IKE’s swimmers giving it their all and getting their best times. We ended the meet with the 200 freestyle relay, and one of our relay teams won, which was really exciting. This potentially means our relay has a chance of making it to state. At districts, it’s the top two athletes/relay teams in each event who make it to state. You can also get an auto-qualifying time, but that’s more difficult. A lot of swimmers have enjoyed getting back into racing and seeing where they were this early into the season.

On the other hand, the change in the time when we get out of school is making our practices shorter. IKE’s swim team borrows time from Lions Pool for two hours, 3:00 to 5:00 after school. This means we can’t change or push back our pool time, because the public wouldn’t be able to use the pool as much. Since we now get out of school at 2:45, it’s difficult for swimmers to make it to the pool before three. The parking lot is always busy trying to get out of IKE, and it usually takes 10-15 minutes to drive from IKE to the pool. Despite this difficult situation, the swimmers are working hard in the pool and the weight room to prepare for the rest of this season.
