Blood Drive Donations

Did you know that our school holds blood drives that you can participate in? There are many different reasons as to why and how you can go about donating blood. I conducted a brief interview with Mr. Quesnell, the host of the drive, to discuss it further.
Why, in your own words, is donating blood important?

“The biggest reason is that it benefits the community and the health of the community. Every donation can help up to 3 other people.”
Have you donated blood before, and do you recommend donating too?

“I have donated before, with the blood drive on the 24th, this will be my 10th donation.”...” Yes, I really like donating and recommend it to others. It really only takes about 5 minutes and is an excellent cause.”
What are common misconceptions about donating blood?

“Personally, I think it is how they feel, but as long as you follow what the red cross says to do, you will be okay. And even if you are afraid of needles, you will be just fine, it isn’t as bad as you think it is to be, it is actually easier.”
Blood Drive Facts:

1.This summer was the 1000th donated unit

2. Sept. 25th makes the 22nd blood drive in the history of IKE

3. 75% of donations are first-time donors

Donating blood is essential for several reasons, including supporting patients in need of surgery, providing platelets to cancer patients, and contributing to a diverse donation category. To donate blood, you must meet the following requirements: be 16 years of age or older, have parental consent, provide proof of age, and weigh at least 110 pounds.  There are common occurrences where people come in to donate blood, without realizing they are ineligible, such as taking certain medications, having low iron, or having traveled outside the U.S.A. in the past 3 years or less.

The September 25th blood drive was a success. You should definitely donate to the next blood drive and be a part of a fantastic cause. You never know if you like doing something until you try it!
