Environmental Club at Sunfair Parade

Saturday, the 20th, the Eisenhower Environmental Club partnered with Yakima 350 in the Sunfair Parade! Our goal was to raise awareness about environmental changes and highlight how solar power is an excellent alternative for obtaining energy without harming our planet.

I interviewed the club secretary, Madison Branch, to get her perspective on the event. When asked how the club impacted people being at the parade, she replied, “I think that the club really showed people that caring about bigger issues, such as the environment, isn’t strictly reserved for adults or people with a lot of resources. I think having a large group of ordinary high school students coming together to raise awareness about something so prominent in our community opened some people’s eyes to what it takes to be an environmentalist and to care about our earth.”

When I asked how this experience felt, she said, “This entire experience felt enriching. To be a part of something bigger than yourself and to come together with other people within the community, knowing that the issues of the environment are being raised to people, young and old, is incredibly fulfilling.”

Finally, I asked what her favorite part was, and she shared, “My favorite part of this experience was seeing my club and all of my friends work together and put our energy into something worth it in the end.”

This event allowed our club to meet amazing people and have fun while spreading an important message. Overall, we put a lot of effort into this project, making posters, costumes, and preparing seeds, but it was worth it knowing that people would have one more flower in their gardens or a different perspective on their daily life.
