Slowpitch: Back in Season

As we start another school year at IKE, fall sports are coming in at full swing, especially, slowpitch. With a full roster, they begin the season full of hope and motivation.18 girls have been giving it their all and having fun every day at practice.
Player Interview:

After an interview with one of the lead players, Angelina Barrera, I realized the true meaning of this sport to these girls. “What’s important to me is the growth that we are all able to achieve with each other.”  Angelina shared, preaching about how much all the girls help each other.

With nowhere to go but up, this team has an enthusiastic approach to this season. Even though they don’t have a ton of support, the support they do have will be loud and proud for them in the stands. The team loves playing and growing together, and this is enough to drive them through the season. They enjoy seeing one another build off each other and flourish, and I can’t wait to see it either.
First Game:

With mostly upperclassmen, this team is full of leaders, and after watching their first game of the season, you could see it in their play. While it was tough, you could see their potential and skill shine through in the hard moments. Plays were being made all around the diamond, and all the girls stayed focused for the whole game. This is a very well-rounded team, with girls able to hit well, field exceptionally, and throw lasers. While it was a bit unusual, it was extremely fun to watch. Once I got accustomed to the game in general, I was able to cheer on IKE and heckle the umpire. Which is, honestly, one of my favorite things to do.

If you want to come watch this season, don’t hesitate to ask somebody what the schedule looks like. Any and all support is more than appreciated in their games. Good luck in your season, girls!
