Eisenhower Sports on Probation
Probation
Currently, Eisenhower High School is on probation by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) due to the number of ejections of athletes in Ike Sports. Ike received five ejections in the 2023 and 2024 school years. These ejections have mostly come from the football and boys' basketball teams. If we continue to accumulate these points, the WIAA may be able to eliminate the school from participating in sports for a year.
Consequences
If ejections continue to occur in certain teams here at Ike, the consequences could affect teams that don’t have any ejections. Ike teams like marching band could have their postseason taken away, cross country runners may lose their chance at making it to state, and sports later this year, like basketball and track, could lose their chance at playing a full season. Let’s hope the actions of specific teams don’t have unfair repercussions for other athletes working hard in their sports.
Sportsmanship Plan
Our Athletic Director, Mr. Stephens, has worked with the WIAA to keep our sports teams going. After Mr. Stephens' meeting with the WIAA, they were able to agree on a sportsmanship plan, which created guidelines for the athletes, parents, coaches, and the school. The plan contains 5 parts structured to help Ike teams with refraining from getting more ejections. It includes accountability, an action plan, an evaluation plan, specific expectations, and a timeline. Although the football team has had two ejections during games so far this year, they have not been filed, meaning they do not add to the ejections we already have. Mr. Stephens guaranteed that as long as the plan is followed, there shouldn’t be any more ejections that could lead to major consequences here at Ike.
