Varsity Volleyball, A Deep Dive
Eisenhower’s varsity volleyball team is filled with many wonderful girls, but what do you know about them? Most people, including myself, have never actually done a deep dive into what makes Eisenhower sports teams,, and that’s why, as a member of the newspaper, I took the liberty of doing a much more complex dive into not only their sport, but them as a team. I spoke with varsity volleyball players Olivia Jackson and Gracee Brewer and asked them a few questions on the subject of their teamwork ethic, records, and what to expect from our varsity team.
I asked, “How’s their season currently going?” Gracee and Olivia both reply with, “Pretty good. I feel like we’re all doing really well, working together, being good people on and off the court; we have really good chemistry this year.”
Next, I asked about their accomplishments as a team. Gracee said, “We beat Moses Lake in a game for the first time in 14 years. We also beat Selah, which was another big accomplishment for us.”
This next question is the one I was most excited for. I asked, “What is your winning ratio? Have you won more games than you lost?” Olivia says, “Right now, we’re one/one for league. If you include the summer games, we’ve definitely won more than we lost.”
My last question, got a pretty unexpected answer; I wanted to understand more about their teamwork and communication, so I asked, “How’s your team thrive? What parts of teamwork and communication help build your team?” First Gracee explained, “We’re very good at making sure we’re all involved. We do things outside of volleyball; it’s team bonding.” Olivia clarified, “We’ll go to each other’s houses, or get food together right before a game and other things like that.” Which in my opinion, not only helps build a connection between each of your teammates, but also helps with more efficient communication.
These girls have shown that not only are they committed to volleyball, but they’re also committed to each other. From taking time out of their summer break to taking time out of their personal lives, they’ve all managed to be there for each other and help build what we call our varsity volleyball team. So please, ask around and find a time to go watch their team in action because, from what I’ve heard from these girls, they put a lot of time into making not just themselves look good, but also our school. Go cadets!
