New Team , New Goals, Same Passion
This season, the volleyball team has welcomed several new transfer players, bringing fresh energy and talent to the court. To get to know them better, I sat down with the transfers to hear about their experiences, how they’re adjusting to a new team, and what their goals are for the season. Their responses show how teamwork, confidence, and a positive attitude can make a big difference both on and off the court.
Transfer student Grace Hernandez, from West Valley, shared that her experience with the team this season has been “very good,” adding that she feels like she gets along great with everyone “on and off the court.” “Adjusting to a new school was a bit different at first since the school is a lot bigger,” but she explained that “knowing a lot of the girls from volleyball helped me adjust.” Grace shared that the program at ike is “a lot more competitive since we're all close in talent,” and that she feels “a lot more connected to the team and coaches.” She says she decided to transfer because “the coaching is a lot better here at ike, and I live a lot closer to the school than I did to West Valley.” As for how the season is going, Grace said, “I think the season is going decently. We have a lot to work on, but hopefully we'll get it all figured out for the postseason.”
Transfer student Kiley Harris, also from West Valley, has already made an impact on the volleyball team this season. “My goals this season are to build strong relationships with my teammates and further develop my skills,” Kiley shared. She said she's most excited to “be able to play outdoors under the stadium lights.” Coming in as a transfer, Kiley explained that she “hopes to bring consistency and reliability to our team this season.” To stay motivated, she reminds herself that “I’m in the situation that I’m in because others believe I’m capable and my skills have led me there.” Her favorite moment so far was when she “finally was able to play and got to start against Wenatchee."
Overall, these transfers have shown great determination and positivity, and they continue to grow with their new team. Their hard work, motivation, and team-first mindset have made them a valuable addition to the program. As the season goes on, they look forward to building even stronger connections with their teammates and creating more memorable moments on the court.
